Thoughts: Sugar, spice and everything nice

Feeling black and white, nostalgic and dreaming of the past year.

Starting a document of our lives.

With new eyes.

Shading style, food, travel.

And some blahs.

Travelogue: Paris en noir

A spontaneous weekend getaway to Paris last month.
No shopping, despite living literally next to Champs-Élyseés.
No tourist attractions, wanted a casual and relaxed trip, hence no pressure to wake up at 7am.
And the long queue outside Notre Dame had affirmed the decision.
Only food, and more food.
This is how life should be. Even if it was just for 3 days.

Noir is Paris. Noir is love.

Lunch at Antoine, michelin Parisian gastronomy across the street that overlooks the Eiffel.
The best seafood one could probably get.
Say hi to my first favourite restaurant in Paris.

Walk and keep walking. London, you've trained me well.

Dinner at Le Kong, Japanese French fusion sky bar restaurant in the city.
Highlights of the night were probably the sight of Louis Vuitton and finding Pierre Hermé on the dessert menu, both which I found fed me more than the food (taste wise) And those geisha's heads that were all over the place killed my appetite.

Late night stroll at the Louvre,

and walked on quiet streets as Paris fell asleep

Finally, the last morning

What about some snails for breakfast?

Goodbye for now Paris. Till we meet again.

Instagram Diaries: The Food of the French (Part 1)

French. A word that has many faceted meanings that entails the promise of satisfaction. My connection to all things France (pronounced Fe-Rance despite my American college education) begins with my humble connection to the beauty of the language deux annee prochain in boarding school in Switzerland. No confusion though, Swiss and French food are eons apart; just a twist of French influence.

An pseudo avid reader of The New Yorker, I found this critique of the mystique behind French food ravishingly refreshing and representative of my American French Food experience thus far. Why can't we let go of the myth of French Food?

Because its orgasmic French ?

Last month's guilty pleasure: Menton, Boston.

Some of my favourite courses off the Prix Fixe Menu

Ceci Socca

 Concord Grape Panna Cotta

Delightful nibbles in between courses made for a happy well-fed, well satisfied girl.

 Candied cherries, caramel slice

 Mini assorted macarons

Lazy Tuesday

Woke up to the depressing looking London and dragged myself out of bed to make myself a lazy breakfast - avocado crab stick salad (not so lazy after all, it did require some kinda of effort, like pulling open the fridge and cutting up the ingredients and mixing them in a bowl. Totally defy the term lazy.) Don't even talk about washing the dishes.

Pardon my occasional indie swing, London's weather is just making things harder. #londonliving

Lazy Avocado Kani Salad Recipe:
Ingredients:
1. Very ripped avocado (personally love the mushy texture)
2. Packaged crab sticks (or crab meat or lobster but then again it should be LAZY, hence accessibility was taken into account)
3. Cucumber (to contrast with the mushy avocado)
4. Hard boiled egg
5. Basically anything else according to personal preferences
6. Lastly, and most importantly, Kewpie mayonnaise, it makes all the difference

Read the first paragraph again for instructions. Kthxbye.
Feel free to have some food styling sesh. It's pretty fun, sometimes.

Grey on grey on grey.
The weather you don't get elsewhere.
